So… If you’ve been keeping track at home, it seems like I’ve been on permanent vacation since returning from the overseas trip, right? Yea, well, too bad. Things have been busier than Macy’s, the Sunday before xmas, for me. I will promise you, in the meantime, that after this little 2 week excursion back home, (Cape Cod) District Creatives will be back and better than ever. New posts, new profiles, new people, new writers, new photos, the whole she-bang! To me, this little experient is starting to work, and I intend on seeing it thru, because if the past 5 months have shown me anything, it’s that this city is ready to explode on the creative/art scene, and make a name for itself, in 2008. So, I want to thank everyone who has been involved in this process since late July, and promise that this is just the beginning as we move towards 2008. (Who writes stuff like this?!) : ) Happy holidays to all, and a happy and creative New Year! -kk

A performance about how much someone hates their job.

A 75 minute, one man Star Wars trilogy.

30 plays in 60 minutes.

Sound interesting? I mean, anyone can go spend 12 bucks on a Hollywood blockbuster these days, but c’mon now…

I know it’s the holidays, and everyone has their holiday parties …and their shopping… and all of those other responsibilities during this season, but if you get a free moment, and you’re looking for an amazing and interesting time, shoot downtown to DC’s establishing “theater district” and check out the Wooly Mammoth Theatre. Established almost 30 years ago, they opened their doors on the permanent residence a few years back, and have been performing award winning material with some of DC’s most creative theatrical forces. While you’re in the area, swing by the annual Holiday Market, right by the portrait gallery. A lot of the creative talent in this town have booths set up, and they provide wonderful and unique gift ideas. Look at that – Double whammy in this post! Wooly Bully indeed. : ) -kk

So many Holiday parties, so few tuxedo t-shirts to choose from and wear… So tragic.

The thing about those mass produced tees that you can get at an Urban Outfitters, with those catchy saying and retro characters, is that not only can anyone buy one, but almost everyone can understand the concept behind a gigantic “FRANKIE SAYS RELAX” shirt. I present to you, Archipun.

Started 4 years ago by college roomates, Kevin Johnson, (not this Kevin Johnson) and Joel Chappo, Archipun was born. They began printing architecture-related sayings on t-shirts basically for beer money, selling them to kids in their architecture studio. Since graduating from Ball State in Muncie Indiana, Chappo moved to LA and Johnson moved to DC. According to Johnson, “We have done a few runs of shirts for friends and coworkers, but never really ‘released’ them. We’ve done pre-orders of shirts in the winter and spring the last couple years of the most popular sayings. We have about 20 different ones but only print 6 to 8 of them.” So we know what that means… Limited. Edition. Tees. …Awesome.

And truthfully, I apologize to Kevin Johnson for not getting this post up earlier. He’s another one of the District’s truly creative types, and he had mentioned something about “pre-orders having to be in by Dec 3.”… However, should you want one of these great, unique humor tees, you can still contact kevin.johnson@smithgroup.com. -kk
