Shameless Self-Promotion #3,478

So, I got this crazy idea, late last year. I thought to myself, “Self, why not provide a service of graphic design, in print, web, and multi-media avenues? Hell, I do enough of it, under the heading of ‘kevinkoskiPHOTO’! And my boy Mark does a boat load of his own…”. So, without further ado, I present to the viewing public, the Voltron-esque combination and collaboration of ideas, and powers between Mark Sanchez, an amazing and uber-creative head, (and, a soon-to-be-moving-to-the-DC-area-and-therefore-district-creative) and myself – March Forth Design. Check it out! The website is fully operational, the work is there, and we expect to be completely up and running (read; in the same time zone.) in a matter of weeks. …Well, at least before pitchers and catchers report for spring training. Go Sox! : ) -kk

Sweeeeeeeet!

Clear your calendars for the first weekend in February, and make plans to head to the Art Gallery at UMD, for the opening reception (Feb 6, 5-7pm) of what plans to be an amazing time and gathering of local and national artist, “Sweet! The Graphic Beauty of the Contemporary Rock Poster”. Co-curated by previously featured John Shipman, and Justin Strom the show runs thru March 29th, and features more than 25 artists, celebrating bunches of large name bands and musicians, and TONS of art for sale, at the Sweet Booth, which is an all day event (11am-7pm) featuring exhibiting artists showing and more importantly, SELLING their wares (posters/tees/etc) in the lobby of the art/sociology building for great prices. (Man, what is with me and these gigantically long run-on sentences? Mom, if you’re reading this, print it out, and mark all of my grammatical mistakes with a red pen, and send me the PDF. Thanks)

Where was I? Oh…

So, if you’re into that sort of thing, if you’re like me and you see album covers as more than just album covers, or you have always wanted an authentic White Stripes concert poster, or you just love the fact that music and graphic arts just go so damn hand in hand, then come to the opening of this fantastic event, February 6th, 2008, at 6pm, and celebrate all that is great and fun with rock, silkscreening, great music, and truly creative people. : ) -kk

A District Creative… sorta.

Filed under: Arts & Artists — kevinkoskiphoto @ 1:28 pm

Now, I know Kerry Washington is a New York girl, …and yea she went to Spence …and yea, she’s tri-coastal now, spending a lot of time in NYC, Chicago, and LA, making moves and movies …BUT! She does have DC ties, (Theatre, GWU grad, 1998) so that, in my warped mind, makes her a District Creative. Plus the fact that, 1) I can’t get this song out of my head, and 2) the direction was really well executed, that all leads me to give a round of applause to Kerry for her co-directorial debut of Common’s “I Want You” video, off of Finding Forever. Behold, crank it up, and have a great Friday and weekend! -kk

Laura Tsaggaris

There’s always going to be something about the appreciation I have for a local artists making good. Not just “good”, like good – “they made some money and gave back to the community” good, and not just “good” like – “hit it big with some sort of niche-poppy song that gets a little bit of airplay” good. I’m talking like, “good work, good skills, good music, good appreciation, good all around.” After careful investigation, I believe Laura Tsaggaris is doing good. Rather, is doing great.

Armed with a guitar, an amazingly produced and performed album, a voice & songwriting skills that reach beyond her contemporaries, and a desire to follow a dream, Washington DC’s own, (by way of transplant, similar to the 78 billion others from Pittsburgh, living here now…) Laura Tsaggaris is gearing up to hit that foreign stretch of land also known as “the west coast” in support of her 2005 album “Proof”, and in preparation for the anticipated release of new material for an album in 2008. (That, by the way, was the longest run-on sentence in the history of the English language. Thanks for noticing.) She’s received praise for the initial release of the album, and has been touring the area locally for some time now, and is making a push in 2008, to bring her sound to a wider audience. (Which in my completely unprofessional opinion sounds like a wonderful assortment of Aimee Mann/Nick Drake/Regina Spektor/Counting Crows/and Ani Difranco all hanging out at a party. But then again, I’m just a photographer. What do I know…) Anywhoo, Laura’s got a few more gigs around here for the next few weeks, including Wonderland Ballroom, and Bistro Europa, in Alexandria, but you better catch her now, as she’ll be gone west, south, north, and all points in between, for the better part of the next few months. And when she comes back all famous and stuff, so she totally won’t remember all of us, maybe. If you run into her before though, say hi, and support local artists by buying her albums on on iTUNES! PROOF (2005), EP (2001), at CD baby, and check out the myspace page for touring info and all things relative.

Oh, and for what it’s worth, it’s pronounced – (suh-GAIR-iss) : ) -kk
